Settling a kitten in a new home
The first day the kittens 🐱 go to the new home is an important turning point for them. They left their closest mother and siblings. The first feeling the kittens had to the new home 🏠directly affects the future relationship and trust in the new parents. If they are intimidated at first, it may take more time to adjust to their new home. Below are some tips that can help kittens settling in.
Location
Food & Water
Safety
Provide a quiet, warm and well ventilated area/room where they can retreat and let them explore this area at their own pace. New home may be too big for the kitten, restricting access to one room can reduce confusion, speed up process of toilet training. Especially, if you have young, naughty children or other pets in your home, keep them at a safe visible but out-of-reach distance, such as a cage or fence gate, for a week.
Provide food and water bowls in an area away from the litter box. Kittens may not use the litter box every day for the first few days and not eat well, the whole process can take up to two weeks or so because moving to a new home is very stressful for them. Don’t force them to do anything, just give them time to adjust the new environment.
Please ensure you closed the window or balcony door. Bear in mind objects that could be ingested (eg needle and thread) or chewed. Remove plants that are toxic to cats❗
Plenty of Attention and Interaction
Don’t rush them. They may try to hide initially but when they start to feel more comfortable, you can begin to show them more affection or play gently with them.
